About this event

This exhibition explores a singular body of work by the late Jut-ke-Nay–Hazel Wilson, a Haida artist dedicated to cultural work. Created between 2005 and 2006, the series of 51 history robes recounts pivotal episodes of Haida history through painted and appliquéd compositions. The robes documentation ranges from pre-contact stories to colonial histories, including Wilson's own childhood experiences. This marks the first time nearly the entire body of work is shown together in a public gallery. The exhibition resonates with contemporary audiences by depicting enduring Haida connections to their territory.
