About this event

I Use My Haida Eyes explores a singular body of work by the late Haida artist Jut-ke-Nay–Hazel Wilson. The exhibition features 51 history robes created between 2005 and 2006, which recount specific episodes of Haida history from a Haida perspective. These works document pivotal histories ranging from pre-contact stories to the artist's childhood experiences on Haida Gwaii. The robes draw on traditional button blanket techniques while pushing into the realms of history painting and folk art. This landmark exhibition marks the first time nearly the entire series has been displayed together.
