I Use My Haida Eyes: The History Robes of Jut-ke-Nay–Hazel Wilson explores a singular body of work by the late Haida artist. Created between 2005 and 2006, the exhibition features 51 'history robes' that recount specific episodes of Haida history from a Haida perspective. These robes document pivotal histories from pre-contact stories to colonial legacies and personal childhood experiences on Haida Gwaii. The works push the boundaries of traditional button blankets into the realm of history painting and folk art. This landmark exhibition marks the first time nearly the entire series has been shown together publicly.
